I doubt that.Ĭivilization Revolution 2 Plus does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of the Civilization games and cramming it into the Vita but, as a portable game, it’s inevitable to lose some of the strategy and smoothness of a PC game.
So then at the start of every turn for the rest of the game my culture advisor popped up telling me to build the United Nations. However, as this is the winning condition that is likely to take the most time, I also met the winning condition for culture all I had to do was build the United Nations world wonder. In one game I was aiming for a science victory which meant building a spaceship to reach Alpha Centauri. What kind of tactic is this, Russia?Īnd then there’s the advisers. All of this without even invading my cities. There was also multiple times when Russia declared war on me and then after a few turns declared war again, and again, and again. Of course, this is a part of the game but it felt as though this happened every turn. While playing on king difficulty or higher opposing leaders will constantly nag you to trade technologies or demand you to pay them gold in return for peace. Somebody accidentally pushed the big red button. However, this is a game that doesn’t require any precision skills like landing head shots so I can forgive it. Furthermore, as the game progresses and more units/cities are added to the map you’ll notice some slow-down.
In the late game you’ll likely have over 30 different units placed around the map and changing between them one-by-one with the d-pad is a pain in the backside. With a handheld strategy game it can be difficult to ensure that the playing experience is as comfortable as possible and there are definitely some areas of Civ Rev 2 that have issues. In case you didn’t know, this game is essentially a port of the mobile game with some extra content like leaders and scenarios. You can easily begin and finish a game in a single sitting, usually taking 2-5 hours depending on the difficulty and victory route you decide to take. Games don’t last nearly as long as on PC but this is how it should be. I often told myself I’d play for a few more turns only to find that hours had passed. What you’ll find with Civ Rev 2 is that it’s easy to pick up and play and hard to put down.

It’s nice to see that the game includes a good amount of different scenarios to play through (including some exclusive to this Vita port) but I easily put 20 hours into the random map generator alone. To be completely honest, as with Civilization V on the PC, I spent most of my time using the random map generator rather than playing the in-game scenarios. Packed into this handheld instalment are three different game modes. These include a random map generator which allows you to easily start up a game with your chosen leader, a scenario mode that lets you play with specific guidelines, and a scenario editor where you can change factors such as the starting year, world climate, and the rate that barbarians spawn in the world. So I deploy riflemen and tanks to defend Rome, set production to produce even more infantry and hope that I can hold back the Indian forces until I have enough gold in my pocket. Sure, Civilization Revolution 2 Plus (from here on Civ Rev 2) may not offer the scale and strategy of the PC games but it does enough to capture the essence of what makes Civilization games fun. After all, the warmonger only needs to capture my capital city of Rome to win the game. The only obstacle that stands in my way is Gandhi and his eagerness to erase my civilization from the face of the Earth. After developing the economic production of the Roman empire for the last 4,000 years the conditions for an economic victory are almost complete.
